Be an Avs fan from the start and you'll have seen Roy try to play the puck from the corner only to give it right to their player at the blue line.
The great thing about Roy was that he used to give huge 2nd and 3rd efforts, so he'd get back into the net for some amazing saves. Let me see if I can find his intermission videos from his retirement night at the Pepsi Center. One of those videos has the perfect example of what I'm talking about.

Brodeur is/was an amazing goalie, and any good goalie wouldn't have had those numbers, but I do think his greatness is slightly inflated. I wonder if an analysis can be done of the teams GAA with the backups in net, just to give an idea of the impact of the goalies in question.

Well if you check pre-lockout Devils... specially during the late '90s until the lockout, every Devils backup had better number than Brodeur with their limited play. I am not saying that these guys were good (we're talking about Schwab and the like) but had inflated numbers because they team played boring trap (even worse since it was the backup) hockey. They weren't even drawing that much when they won the Cup because everyone knew the game would be a bore. Still, I won't say Brodeur isn't great, he was, but I doubt he would have these numbers if he played for another team.

That information is gold if it is true.
If every backup had better numbers than him, it would be insane.

Well, better in every category except goals scored (Brodeur scored more than his backups).

So its settled, Schwab > Brodeur

Hedberg > Schwab > ... > Brodeur

2000-2001 : John Vanbiesbrouck 1.50 and .935%
2000-2001 : Martin Brodeur 2.32 and .906%

2001-2002 : John Vanbiesbrouck 2.00 and .915%
2001-2002 : Martin Brodeur 2.15 and .906%

2002-2003 : Corey Schwab 1.47 and .933%
2002-2003 : Martin Brodeur 2.02 and .914%

2003-2004 : Scott Clemmensen 1.01 and .952%
2003-2004 : Martin Brodeur 2.03 and .917%

There are some exceptions here and there notably during the '90 but the numbers are still there. Again, it's nothing against Brodeur but only why I rank him underneath Patrick Roy.

hahaha, those are some crazy stats, wouldn't have expected it. They're inflated numbers because of the numbers of games played, the corresponding extra defensive shutdown when the backups were in, and the likelihood (without looking it up) that those goalies played in "easier" games. Still, really interesting stats indeed.

Now it makes Schneiders save % seem much less impressive when compared to loungos.

Yeah, there are mitigating factors, but the main point of the story is that Roy is better that Brodeur.

Schneider is good but he won't reach luongo's peak. Lu is who we should be sticking with but the media and bandwagon fans are making it impossible for him to remain here.
Bandwagoners only remember the epic failures of luongo and not his consistency game to game. Even when he's playing bad its consistent.
Schneider puts us behind half the teams in the league in terms of goaltending. Price, Lundqvist, Backstom, Ward, Miller, Quick, Rinne, Fleury, STLs goalies, PHIs goalies, CAPs goalies, Bos goalies, ect. He's had games as bad as Lou but he gets pulled before the game gets out of hand unlike Lou.

Lou lets in the odd bad goal but fans of every team say that about their goalie. Goalies are treated very unfairly (esp in Van).
No one bitches at the D or Forward who turned it over, or his teammates who didnt provide that D or Fwrd with a passing option.
If they do, they forget about it the next game, unless it happens everygame like bieksa 09-10 season.

Lu is the safer option thats for sure. I'm going to be sad to see him go. However, we don't know if Schneider puts us behind half the teams yet. It is literally almost impossible for luongo to come back as you say, so we're going to find out about Schneider in a hurry. (after a few rounds of golf).

Schneider probably didnt even want to end up starting here because of the media/bandwagoners. I still maintain it would be absolutely hilarious if we ended up with Reimer/Gustavsson.

I rarely reply to brodeur bashing because its simply insane to compare Brodeur to his back ups when they played less than 10 games and his team scored like a sheldon from Big Bang. Since you comment on his numbers ...go look at 2006 2007 did they even need a back up.. No doubt in my eyes Him and Roy have no equals.. and If roy could score like Marty he would be the best of the 2.

Lu is not the safer bet. Not only have the bandwagoners And media jumped ship on him, but the most important factor, his teammates have quit on him. If you watch the team play in front of Lu it's completely different because he does let in a soft goal, or the save that he needs to make it not made all the time and it hard to regain your teams confidence. The team could think he should make every save, and not saying one way or the other, but you can't start when that has happened.
