Tactics? I think I read something about a 'wheel' or paper-rock-scissors of the tactics. What exactly beats what, I looked through results and am not getting it.
Normal > Defensive > Offensive > Forechecking > Counter atacks > Breaking up > Normal

The real trick is in outwitting your opponent when choosing tactics
and its but one of many factors, the most important being team strength
Not going to lie. I lived and died by those tactics a season or two ago. Now however, not so much. When you have a new team or a weak team, sure... it pays HUGE dividends. However, when your team gets more developed and takes on an identity, I've found certain tactics work best even when your opponent has the right counter tactic. I have some personal observations with regards to playing at home or playing away, and have found lots of success doing so when playing against opponents who are aware of the tactic-counter tactic system.
Every manager has superstitions that they feel are "go to" strategies, but I still think the tactic ring reins supreme.
No one team has a large enough sample size to narrow down their results to just their tactic (independent of what their opponent has played).
I wouldn't want to dare someone to match my tactics just because I think I can beat them anyway.

Knowing the right counter-tactics will help a lot, however over time we tend to build our teams a certain way which suit some tactics more than others.
I still haven't figured out why some tactics work for me better than others, i've just gotten favorable results with some more often than not
Yep, as have I. I adore the breaking up style, but then again, my team has a killer win % with active forecheck.
Breaking up of the Play, i play it most but it's mostly because all the inactives play normal every day, all year 
True, i found that the first few seasons... becomes much harder when the league has no inactives. LOL
