Yep. Staff salary is daily just like the players. This has to catch a ton of new players off guard. Then the staff salary is ridiculously high, but it's ridiculously cheap to buy them. It's a really bad combination. They should lock the staff market for the first month of a new managers career. And make them go through a staff tutorial before allowing them on the market.
When you fire staff, you have to pay half of their remaining contract. If your staff is making 50,000 and has 100 days left on his contract, you will have to pay 2.5M to fire him. I assume yours are making around half as much, 25k? That'll cost you 1.25M to fire each one. You're lucky it's only 3 of them. You'll get off lightly.
If you need some help recovering, ty to get some friendlies with the big teams in I.1. Some of them bring in ridiculous money. They're probably all booked up, but you never know. I have some open dates, but at most you'll only make 200K per friendly because half of my stadium is under construction. Remember, you want to play friendlies on the road (in the bigger stadium) because the stadium where the game is played determines how many fans show up.

two are making 33k and the other was 85k(!!!). cost over 3m to fire him and it put me over 1m in the red. i agree; i thought bc these staff guys were so cheap, relative to really good players, that i'd be fine. had to take a loan and it barely helped. i think i'm going to revoke this team and start all over. i'm screwed.
That is rough. I know it isn't much consolation, but if you HAVE to start over, now is the best time to do it, and you know what approach to take when you do. I'm just sorry I couldn't post sooner before you bought your staff but I was at work when you asked the question.
Friendlies are a great way to generate income. Look for any teams in leagues I.1 or even some with bigger stadiums in the II divisions and challenge them to games in their stadiums. That was how I supplemented my income for the first season. I still do, but it's not as big a part of my income now.

i didn't realize you made money on away games! and no worries, these types of games are mainly just learn as you go. i really appreciate all the advice so far! i'll be off to a much better start next time around.
Well, don't give up just yet. If you can get some good friendly games going with teams with big arenas you should be ok, and don't forget that tomorrow is Wednesday, which means you get the money from your general sponsor. Don't make plans to start over just yet.
Ok I'll tough it out. I've got some higher-level friendlies scheduled so that's promising at least. 3m isn't TOO big of a hole I suppose......
3m isn't the end of the world....but it's still a HUGE bummer in the early goings. I guess, of course, it depends on what your making a week in sponsorship money...but still its a bummer. But now you know......and knowing is half the battle. <--- yep...that's a GI Joe reference.
to all who have been worrying these past difficult, long, dark, shadowy days: the st. louis rainbows have officially come out of the red!!!! growth has absolutely stalled, but finances have finally taken a turn for the better! thanks everyone for the advice.
Glad to hear it. Must be nice to be able to start focusing on growth soon. I suggest getting Hr & Economics in order with the end of the season approaching.

^^^Yea. Get 2managers ASAP with decent attribute2s. That is marketing, which determines your sponsorship amount for the following year.
Sorry for the double post, I was on my phone and this stupid "forum" doesn't let you delete or modify posts.
Be careful not to go nuts with staff again.
When I finished my first season after coming in past the halfway mark, I had my HR and Econ dept. at level 4 and a manager with Marketing around 18 iirc. Between General and Media Sponsors I managed to get around $3 million weekly for this season. It's not much, but considering it basically doubled what I was making last season I was happy. By the end of this season my HR and Econ Dept. will be level 8, but I'm still looking for a new manager. It will be interesting to see my offers. Wait, crap, I'm going to be out of the country. After I find someone to watch my account it will be interesting to hear about the offers. >.<

I've complained about the no delete option forever with nothing done.
My HR is 11, marketing 42%. I screwed myself this season when i sold a manager and forgot to promote another so i am making less than last year after my best year ever. I'm in my 6th season, haven't spent much recently on the market so not improving much. I wanted to build on facilities, but will probably have to build onto arena due to sellouts almost every game. Gonna start next year and maybe add a multifloor, want to finish year to get most out of playoffs.

Wow, I've now known 5 people (including myself) who got scroogied on hiring expensive staff! I went down over $4mm. It'll only take you a couple of weeks to get back up and running strong though.
I'm not sure what league you're in, but it's only taken me I think 15 games to go from cellar-dweller to playoff bound (only 8th place, but still).
TUjague...I don't think you're far off on restricting access to staff. Maybe the 30 days is a bit much, but it could definitely be a separate part of the tutorial. Did you suggest that to a mod?
