I haven't seen it mentioned here so I'll raise the point. I really believe that PPM should adpot an ELO system for OTR. Over the long haul dominate teams would no longer be able to gain OTR while staying in a lower league. Every time they lost a single game it would hurt them too much. So, they would do everything they could to play in a pool of higher OTR's.

I was in the exact same scenario as others have described. I promoted to rung I in season 8. I finished dead last with 6 regulation time wins. It was a fun season. But in the end the loss in OTR and the ensuing low sponsorship I was given was devestating. Season 9 was financially challenging. To top it off my players all received rung I salary adjustments. I agree 100% with those who have stated it. If you don't think you can be competitive ... you shouldn't be in the higher rung. Your team will suffer. I have only now recovered my OTR.

Furthermore, I always try to remain respectful of everyone's method of trying to build their team. Some people are trying to keep players who are younger, some are trying to "win now", some are building players from only certain regions of the world. Unless those people asked for my opinion I would never tell them they were WRONG for wanting to play a certain way or accuse them of being afraid of something.

Those who accuse us of being "scared to lose games" because our strategy and experience has shown us our teams will be hurt in the long run by promoting are simply being disrespectful, imo.

I'm glad you chimed in because my original post was directed at teams like yours.
If the top teams in Div II refuse to move up, then the top teams in I.1 will continue to widen the gap of superiority. Allowing a team without a manager to run the table in your playoffs really only benefits the Div I teams. If you're happy being a top dog in Div II, that's fine. Just don't complain about Div I.1 being too good. There is an excellent system in place to assist in closing the gap, but it's not be utilized.
In your case, you're forfeiting 49,998,724 that you can use right now. You're also reducing the sponsorship offer that comes next week, which will cost you a few million over the course of Season 11. With 50Mil, you can add 1500 seats to your arena, this will boost future media offers significantly, it will also improve attendance revenues moving forward. That's just one example of how you can improve using promotion.
There are other less tangible benefits to promoting, including a higher seed in the National Cup, the opportunity to qualify for the Champions League, and the opportunity of even larger offers.

You may or may not agree, but I stand by assertion that teams are in fact 'scared to lose games' as the main reason they don't promote.

TMO, I used to think like you did, but being the person that moves up really changes everything.
Yes, the promotion bonus helps, but if you can't be a top 8 team after 2 seasons of promoting, you begin to lose money compared to staying in a lower div and winning.

As for boosting the arena size, mine as well as many others are almost maxed, so that is a moot point.

I quite frankly don't care if I'm a top dog or a bottom dog ... as long as I'm building my team. The year after being in rung one I couldn't do ANY developments.

I have never complained about rung I being too good. So don't go attributing that to me. I have said that I believe OTR is not working well and I would prefer an ELO system.

I'm totally fine with you having a different opinion on how to build. I said that and I respect everyone's methods.

I'm not even sure the unmanaged team will go to rung I. I suspect that the rebalancing will occur and the highest OTR team in rung II will be pulled up in his place.

Just because my build strategy involves not promoting doesn't mean I'm scared of losing. In fact through "greening" my team next season, I expect to drop in my league's standings.

Over the last 3 seasons, I've lost 44 regulation regular season games. I'm not "scared to lose".

I think your view is skewed by some simple facts:

You have been in League I.1 since season 3.
In the last 7 seasons, you have only finished once out of the playoffs. That season, if I remember correctly, you had done a youth movement and demoted to II.4 where you dominated before coming back up and finishing 7th in the season and 1st after the playoffs.

You have never been in that position of being on the cusp. You have never promoted to a league where you were not in the top 8 teams. You were never one of those teams that promoted and became cannon fodder.

Because of your lack of experience in this regard (and I'll skip over how condescending you sound about people being afraid to lose), I don't think that you're that qualified to talk down to the guys who have actually struggled with promotion.

Chad and Elpatzer have both tried to promote to I.1 and they're both good players. And yet, they got their ass handed to them, the extra money did not help. They're both demoting (or have demoted) and I'm sure this will hurt their team more than helping them.
