Vexter...it really depends on the players you have. There isn't one formation that is better than all the others. Plus, you have Gary Villegas.
i'm going 3-5-2 instead of 4-5-1 because my 2nd forward is 48 points better than my 4th D-man...
Playing your 10 best players in their ideal positions is most likely the optimal tactic for any team, until you get to an extreme like a 6-4-0, and even that might be best if your best forward is significantly weaker than the number 6 defenseman. Individual player strengths seem to have a large effect on the outcome, so maximize that however you can.
just sold my #3 forward so if someone gets a red I'm guessing I'll get to try out a 4-5-1.
I was thinking of setting up a series of games with someone to play them over and over again with different formations to see what worked well and what didn't but going to start a credit tournament in a day or so and no free dates open. Vexter - you should find someone and play them 3-4 friendlies in a row with different formations and tactics and let us know how it pans out...

my team is all screwed up in soccer i need to work on it alot but my facilities are great. Though I got no payroll
I started with 4-5-1 and got number 1 worldwild in team AG, then i changed to 3-4-3 and sunk down completlly. today i'm using 4-4-2 but thinking on getting back to 4-5-1
indeed. a 3-5-2 requires a very strong midfield, and two mids who are stronger-ish on defense. my experience is it works well with a good passing team. both the 4-5-1 and the 3-5-2 let you outnumber attackers in some situations, but the 4-5-1 let's you have more defense.
I play the best players I have and make the best formation I can. It hasn't worked well so far but I think it's because they suck. LOL
ive figured out it always gteat to have mid fielders in the farthest outside. Greater winnning percentage when I did that
yep. fast wingers who can pass well can make a huge difference. i hope it continues to pay off for you! 
a good pass on a fast winger would do marvels if he has a good technique
yea ive been training passing on all my outside Wingers and its worked out great
