That's what I was afraid of. I seemed to remember things going that way.
should you train you defensive players on offense to increase the overall offense of your team? and the same thing with forwards, train them also on defense?
As KillerPuck said generally no. Basically, it does help. But the amount of training time that goes into training off for dmen and def for fwds helps less than if you just trained them 100% on what they were intended for.
That being said, I still train my guys in non-primary attys just for the realism. The cost was falling out of the top 8 in Canada's I.1.

The player will become a group 1 unrestricted free agent when his contract expires. HUH??????
Read the Contracts section of the guide:
hockey.powerplaymanager.c...
This happens at 29yo. You will have to pay a higher % of the offer to keep him. If you don't want to match the highest offer, then you don't get any compensation when he moves to his new team. He signs for 3 seasons just like a normal RFA.
A group 2 UFA is similar to the group 1 except he only signs for one season. This happens at 32yo.

What does it mean when one of a player's stats is highlighted red? Does that mean that it will decrease over time or what?
That is a secondary attribute for the position you've assigned to him. Bold is the primary attribute.
Like when I look at the lines, my goaltender's stats read:
"Age PrS Goa Def Off Sho Pas Tec Agr Exp End Che"
"18 L 22 12 12 11 23 20 12 0 99/99 3"
(I just started, that's why the stats are so low)
Since he's a goaltender, the "Goa" stat (22) is bolded. But also, his "Pas" (23) and "Tec" (20) stats are in red font.
All my wingers have "Tec" and "Agr" in red font, all my centers have "Pas" and "Tec" in red font, and all my defensemen have "Pas" and "Agr" in red font.

Yes, that's because Pas and Tec are secondary attributes for goalies. If you read through the guide it'll give more information but basically most people train 2 primary for every 1 secondary. So in the case of your goalie you'd want to train him to 40-23-20 then 46-23-23 and straight up from there at 2:1:1 ratio.
The bolded are the primary attributes. Those should be the highest. The Red ones are secondary attributes. Most people train their primaries twice as high as their secondaries. So a center would need 100 Offense and 50 Pass & 50 Tech.
You also need to train shot for the forwards. A winger might need as much shot as he has offense, or you could treat shot like any other secondary and go half as much. Centers also need shot, but maybe not as much as wingers. I prefer to train my shot closer to offense for all forwards, but some better managers don't. Do what you feel is right.
Dmen also need Technique to cut down on penalties. It used to be needed like the other secondaries, but it doesn't seem as important as it once was. I also train my dmen in shot, but does it help? Who knows

So the red numbers are basically just to tell you the other key areas that you should train a player in at that position?
