Welcome to the WC thread of the Divison I in Germany. We are looking forward to exciting and fair matches with the goal to promote to TOP Division or to succeed against relegation to Division II. Before presenting our highlights, we would like to show you the arenas chosen for the WC.

The arena of pacman is located in Leipzig. This city became famous because of a veggy mix called "Leipziger Allerlei" and the most lovely dialect. It is placed in the probably most beautiful federal state of Germany.

The arena of Pavel Bure #10 is located in Bitburg. In fact this city has no "Burg" (castle) directly, but much more importantly delivers one of the most famous brands of beer from Germany. Also it is placed in the probably most beautiful federal state of Germany.

The arena of penguin is located in Wolfsburg. This city is famous because there is the car city from Volkswagen and it is placed in the probably most beautiful federal state of Germany.

Now let's see our special highlights:

We will create a competition and award the best goalie mask and the best puck with 50 credits each. Please note that we only can consider masks and pucks that are available at the beginning of the WC. The winner will be awarded with 50 credits each.

Additionally we have planned to let the national team managers of the Division I countries choose an All-star team. After the qualifying round all coaches have the chance to send us their Top-Six of the tournament. Most votes will decide the WC-Allstars and we will pay 20 Credits for each of the members of the All-Star-Team to their managers.

Also the top scorer and the best goalie (statistically) of the tournament will be rewarded with 50 credits as well.

The following members organising committee will be available for you throughout the tournament.

The staff of the yesterday crowned German champion [hockey_team=12991] are still working on getting all the confetti after the celebration from the ice while tonight the opening game between host Germany and Team Italy will be played there. The following match will be played between Switzerland and the Ukraine and is considered to be a first match against relegation.

The last workers have left the Angelo d'Arrigo Ice Forum yesterday and so this stadium is ready and shining for the match between Belgium who were relegated last season and Estonia. After that game, France and England will battle for the first points in Group 1.

Another just in time finished arena is the very much improved Pavel Bure Arena. Probably also 20.000 hockey maniacs will be waiting for the first whistle. Croatia will play against Netherlands who will have to fight not to book their return ticket in their trailers in an early stage of the tournament. For the bookies a safe bet is the 20:30 CET match between USA and Brasil, but in the end, you'll never know what happens.

In the North of Germany there is no match scheduled today, but there will be a huge public viewing in the "Nowhere" Arena.

This is complete nonsense, yesterday we got 3 goals in first 12 shots... today we got 4 goals in first 7 shots. Disgrace

Whoa.. that goalie of yours really has an abysmal percentage so far. Very bad luck so far. But on the plus side, it can only get better now.

it was actually 4 goals in 6 shots today... It is comedy. You work hard to prepare your team for WC and then day by day you do not depend on nothing else than (bad) luck.

Every team has bad luck once in a while. Went to OT 3 times now lose 2 times so whats bad luck.

Today a short summary of the final matches of the qualifying round. Just two more games for each team and then it will be decided who secured the play off position and who will fight against relegation.

Tonight on the agenda there could be some deciding matches.

Germany plays in the sold out "Nowhere"-arena against our friends from Netherlands. With a German victory, the play off position is secured, while Netherlands actually has to start winning to avoid the relegation matches. Croatia wants to continue their streak of success after beating Germany with a victory against Britain, who are last in Group I right now and have to start getting points quickly. France and Italy are playing for a good position in the play offs, but the loser of that game still should be careful, as the relegation zone is not really far away.

In Group 2 it will be interesting if the Brasilians will dance around Switzerland as well and continue their winning streak in this tournament. For Switzerland it's also important as they can avoid relegation today with a victory. Estonia plays Ukraine and for Estonia it's the last chance to avoid the relegation round as they still have 0 points so far. USA play for a secure PO position while their opponent Belgium wants to avoid another bad result. Otherwise they could face the second relegation in a row.

The latest news for the last qualifying round match tonight in this seasons Division I world cup.

For the first time in the rebuilt Pavel Bure Arena the German team will play at 20:00 United Kingdom. After qualifying for the playoffs yesterday, Germany can set back a bit and enjoy that game. The Britains have to rely on bad results of France and Netherlands, to avoid the relegation round and so we'll see if they are going to risk a game with high importance. Italy is also qualified already and that will be a chance for the Netherlands. They also need to keep their goal difference in mind, which could be important depending on the result of France. As Croatia needs one more point in their match against France to secure qualification for sure, this match will be the most interesting one tonight. We expect a lot of determination in that game.

Group 2 is almost decided. 3 teams already are qualified for the playoffs and it's now only interesting if Ukraine or Belgium follow them. Ukraine has 3 more points and a better goal difference, so they need just one point to be absolutely sure to qualify. They play Brasil, who don't need a win anymore. The second game is USA versus Estonia and for both teams the result won't change much in the end. The last match will be Belgium versus Switzerland. Is Belgium gonna try everything to get into the playoffs or are they going to avoid energy loss for the relegation round? For Switzerland, it's all about a better position for the playoffs. The playoff opponent could be important for cruising into the final or dropping out of the world cup early.

Today the most interesting part of a world cup starts... the playoffs. First game is at 20:00 CET between slight favourite Germany and USA. But in one deciding game being favourite means not much. The same for Brasil who should be in a better condition than Croatia when playing at 20:30 CET, but it's not a big difference to see right now.

At the same time Switzerland plays Netherlands, while a winner between Italy and Ukraine will be decided half an hour earlier. Let's see which of the national team managers finds the best tactics and has the best rested players left for the crunchtime in this world cup. Two more victories and we will know the teams that will show their colours in the Top Division again next season.

In the relegation round Belgium starts with the advantage of having 3 points from the qualifying round match against Estland. Today they will play Great Britain, who lost the qualifying round match against France after shutout. France on the other hand will play Estland and in the worst case scenario today the relegation round can be decided after two of the three matches.

The relegation matches are not really interesting as we know who will go down anyway, so we will concentrate on the semifinals in Division I. At 20:00 CET we will see Germany playing Brasil and after that Switzerland versus Italy. The winners will promote to Top Division for next season and of course play the final tomorrow. We could write much more about the games, but as no one is interested, it's maybe better, to start a competition. Predict the results of todays two games exactly (so, not only winner, but exact score) and you can either write the final statement tomorrow for us, or participate on a credit tournament of your choice for free.
