PART 1 of 4: Goalies

As we do a bit of preparation for Australia's launch into U20, I thought I'd share some research on U20 players (that is top players aged 18,19 or 20 next season).

This will be a 4-part series over the coming weeks, with this week's topic: Goalies.

Top 10: U20 Australian Goalies
--------------------------------------------
Intro: I feel Australia actually has a great crop of goalies in this age group, I've scouted 6 of the 10, so here is a summary. The top 5 are realistic for inclusion in the U20 squad, but won't be taking that many.

1st: Max Morgan : A 19 year old (OR 889), Academy of [soccer_team=63], he is looking like the U20 starting goalie next season.

2nd: Austin Harbridge : Another 19 year old (OR 814), Academy of [soccer_team=62], he will be a good quality back-up next season.

3rd: Peter Robinson : An 18 year old (OR 756), Academy of [soccer_team=66], he should be ready to take over 1st goalie responsibilities the season after next.

4th: William Whalan : Another 19 year old (OR 742), Academy of [soccer_team=4], is trained in different ratios to the top 2. Plans are to take only two 19 year olds into the team next season so he could well miss out.

5th: Trey Denney : Our star 17 year old (OR 754), Academy and current player of [soccer_team=36519], is currently in the Australian Senior squad. Will be chemistry developed over the next couple of seasons in the U20's to be starting next season and/or the season after (pending a release from the senior team )

6th: Andulis Sirotkins : Is another 17 year old (OR 625), Academy of [soccer_team=36516], we will keep an eye on the next few seasons and see how he develops.

7th: Zac Downing : A 19 year old (OR 622), Academy of [soccer_team=10], has age and skill against him to make NT honours, but makes the top 10.

8th: Max Kelly : An 18 year old (OR 615), Academy of [soccer_team=10], makes 8th place.

9th: Alec Bewley : A 19 year old (OR 513), Academy and current player of [soccer_team=65278], has 9th place attached to him.

10th: Richard Peters : An 18 year old (OR 500), Academy and current player of [soccer_team=4], scrapes in ahead of the pack.

So there's a summary of some U20 Goalies - hope it help those also looking to keep track of our Aussie players. My HR department is working night-shift to keep up with scouting requests from this demanding manager.

U20 Team - Senior U20s!

Still scouting so I don't have another top 10 this week, but instead will chat about the U20 staying in the Senior team.

So next season there will be some U20 players required and staying in the Senior team. So without the best 7 U20 players it will be a couple of seasons before the U20 is at max potential, but will give an opportunity to develop the younger ones.

For your information, following discussion with the NT manager, the U20 players staying in the senior team next season will be:

Defenders:
Declan Gray
Rhys Moore
Riley Cannell
Flynn Ayres
Midfielders:
Edward Moore
Tony Moone
Forwards:
Edwin Schofield


The following are being released from the Senior team to participate in U20 competition:

The PPM rules with introduction of U20 category next season are as follows:
"players under the age of 20 (including) will be allowed to remain in the senior national team for the next season. However, the senior NT managers will not be allowed to add any more under-age players from next season. It will be up to senior NT managers if they let the under-age players go to junior teams or if they will rather keep them."

I was going to give you a comprehensive Top 10 Defenders summary... but I accidentally closed the window halfway through (bugger!!)...

Intro: There is certainly a shortage of side defenders with both the senior and U20 teams having to request some re-training to fill the RD position. Also as mentioned in the post above, the top 4 won't actually be available in the U20 NT next season, but doesn't matter for this top 10 list.

Welcome to the first season of U20 NT, and the first media release officially announcing the team.

I am planning for the starting team to largely stay consistent to build chemistry, however during the friendly rounds the reserves will be changed around to give opportunity to most, and also planning on the reserves having plenty of time on the field also.
