I think the key is how many days are left on his contract. He's 29 and has an expiring contract hence the GM might need to fork out another 50M soon
It is likely the easiest thing you can do to really bolster your team. One player. 50-100M. Look what Pigs did and went to I.1. It is making a big difference for me too.
Thatcher will be a UFA-1 at the end of his contract. You'll need at least another 50M$ to keep him and won't get much in return if you sell it later or if you don't match the best UFA offer. A fine quick fix, but probably not a long term solution. Younger goalies with such ratings normally don't sell for 50M$...

Re: new changes. I guess my fans thought that I had a chance against the mighty Stimulators, where it was my belief that there wasn't a hope there. No forgiveness, and the fans left in droves the next game. At least I think I was punished - there is no notice of feedback in game to say as much aside from the attendance drop. Too bad they didn't come to the latest game, though, because it was a good one - and they missed out!

Yup. Some 20,000 seat arenas were sub-9,000. I would have expected a maximum penalty of 25% of capacity which is roughly what it will be adjusted to.
That's good news. It was way too extreme
