Snow Days/Cleaning Days

Snow Days/Cleaning Days

Well the weather outside is frightful.  The snow is piling up and activities outside are at best limited.  Inside chores only today, clean up/out the junk room.  After that if you haven't lost power, cable, and internet I have another idea.  Today would be a great day to clean up, manage, and improve your PPM sports teams. If you are like me, your teams need an occasional cleaning day.  Today's article will examine an approach to a cleaning day for a PPM sports team.

Steps to be completed:

1)      BEST PLAYERS SHOULD BE PLAYING.  Are some of your starters on the bench?  Did your super star suffer a serious injury and you have forgotten to put him back in the lineup.  No wonder you've been on this long losing streak.  Make sure that you are fielding what you consider to be your best possible team.  Check your lineup to assure that your best players are playing.

2)      GET RID OF DEAD WEIGHT PLAYERS.  Benchwarmers are only that.  If you have players that NEVER play, why are they on the team?  It's ok to have nonplaying players, if they are growing to eventually become a starter.  If the answer is I didn't realize they were not playing, sell or cut them and enjoy the revenue that had been being lost to their salary.

3)      MANAGEMENT CHANGES WHEN APPROPRIATE.  Has your assistant coach become more skilled than your head coach?   Check your staff to confirm that the correct staff members are correctly placed at head and assistant positions.  Misplacement of quality staff is easy to accidentally overlook and could cost valuable revenue or training.

4)      MANAGEMENT OVERLOAD.  You only need two staff members at each facility (maybe more sporting directors); but, having too many staff members can be a financial drain.  Look through your staff, do you have staff that you really could do without.  Sell them off or release them to relieve your team of the burden.

Going through these 4 cleanup items can significantly improve the state of your team.  I realize that there are LOTS of additional cleaning that could be done, but, for my teams, these seem to be the easiest to sometimes overlook and start adding a strain to the overall team.  So take advantage of the snow day... make it a cleaning day.

Note:  This is one of the shortest articles that I've ever written.  That being said, if these steps are completed, you can significantly, upgrade a neglected team.  Hope this is helpful.  I find I have to remind myself to do this and suspect that some of you might need the same reminders.
