yep. i was actually pretty excited about my potential chances in the cup winners cup. then I had to go and ruin it for myself by getting into the champions league lol. (I'm obviously kidding, as it's an honor to partake in either tournament... I hope no one takes offense).

But your assessment seems pretty accurate. The only way a U.S. team will likely ever have a real shot in the champions league is if a couple of the "high seeds" in the group decide to spend that year rebuilding. Either that or they turn to dead teams... which seems surprisingly common actually.

I guess people like "going out on top" so to speak.

I disagree. No one (and I mean no one... in any country), gets into the champions league by accident. Winning the playoffs in the highest division of the country is, at a bare minimum, a testament to the quality of your team, and by extension of you as a manager.

so what exactly is the purpose of the shooting stat in this game? because logic would suggest that it... ya know is the core stat for determining how accurate your team's shooting is right?

In my game today against [handball_team=16083], I had a goaltending rating of 291 compared to his shooting rating of 63. I won by 2 goals.

Two.

AND THAT'S WITH HOME COURT ADVANTAGE.

With a shooting stat of 63, he managed to score 23 goals against two goalies that regularly play games for the U.S. national teams.

Not to be bitter in victory or anything, but seriously, what's even the point of training shooting if you can get those sort of results by just playing a bunch of defensive guys all game on offense?

Actually... on the topic of the shooting stat:

I also find it puzzling how my team's best shooter and best offensive player Rolland Benedict never seems to shoot the ball during regular play.

Excluding his 7m penalty shots, he has just 5 goals in 13 shots through the first two games. My other two offensive backs have scored 12 goals in 23 shots (Robert Mercado ) and 14 goals in 19 shots (Hrvoje Mujagić ). Both have roughly the same number of GOALS as Benedict has SHOTS. That's
absolutely bizarre to me considering that we're talking about a guy with a shot statistic of 480. He should be taking 75% of the shots on the offensive side of the court every game.

Meanwhile, he has 12 assists and leads the league in that category to my knowledge (he won the prize for most assists last season too). He has almost as many assists right now as he has shots!!

Seriously, I'm like a hair trigger away from never training SHO again. It feels worthless. At the very least, it definitely seems like a broken game mechanic. I just feel like the training points are put to better use elsewhere.

I would love to see 2 new teams win the league and NC. Mind you I include myself in the league title.

I'm sort of kidding. I like winning a lot, but I don't want things to get to the point where other teams aren't having fun. LAst year was awesome, but I don't think it's necessary to always win everything at the expense of others. It's no fun playing with yourself.

Well... playing PPM with yourself at least.

I will say that I'm pretty happy that I'm 2-1 in the champions league though. I've only played one home game so far and I've already won more games than I expected to win there all season.

The more success I have at the international level, the less I care about winning everything domestic lol.

Its been like that for me ever since i tasted international competition back in season 4.

2) not to jinx things, but the international tournaments are actually going pretty well so far eh? Two of the teams in your group went dead, and I've already somehow won as many (or more) games than I expected to win all season. We're only 1-2 positions away from getting 4 teams next season, so hopefully we can pull that off.

I played the B team as I need the energy for international level , NC and later on in the season, and the back up goalie is out....

I had a rough match yesterday against ST.BITANGOK in the champions league. He had nearly 4x as many turnovers as I did, but his team is just really really good and beat me in pretty much every other way.

I don't think I could've done much better with my tactical matchup, but it just wasn't meant to be. A stolen win there would've been massive though.

Oh well.
