The Anatomy of a World Champion: Handball

The Anatomy of a World Champion: Handball

Determining the type of player that participates in a World Championship intrigues me.  This article examines the players who made up season 4's World Championship Game for handball.  Coming up on the start of a new season of handball, it seemed intriguing to review players from last season's World Championship game.  Just as in last month's article for soccer, handball players who played in a World Handball Championship game were scouted and evaluated to determine a typical player build for that game.   Also, forgive the less than perfect analysis.  The article's goal is to rather simple:  provide a general look at the typical players who played in a handball Championship game.

Players were examined for overall stats, average stats per general position (Backs, Wings, Pivots, & Keepers), average stats per specific position (Offensive Back, Defensive Back, etc...).  Beyond just determining typical stats, training styles for each position were also examined.  What percentage growth per attribute were players trained?  What is the anatomy of a World Champion (Handball edition)?

Step 1:  Typical Stats for a player in the World Cup

The typical player for the World Handball Championship game was determined to have an overall rating of 633, with an average quality of 80, had gained 43 experience points and was 19 years of age.

Step 2:  Typical Stats per Player Type

Backs had an overall rating of 636, with an average quality of 80, had gained 45 experience points and were 19 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  160 field play, 101 shooting, 99 passing, and 80 technique.

Wings had an overall rating of 621, with an average quality of 78, had gained 42 experience points and were 19 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  152 field play, 104 speed, 88 shooting, 81 technique and 81 blocking.

Pivots had an overall rating of 653, with an average quality of 81, had gained 37 experience points and were 18 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  161 field play, 119 shooting, and 85 technique.

For keepers, see the keeper section in Step 3.

Step 3:  Typical Stats per Player Position (split into offensive and defensive types)

(Offense Positions)

Offense Backs had an overall rating of 652, with an average quality of 82, had gained 50 experience points and were 19 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  170 field play, 134 shooting, 114 passing, and 79 technique.

Offense Wings had an overall rating of 627, with an average quality of 82, had gained 50 experience points and were 19 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  152 field play, 111 speed, 106 shooting, and 77 technique.

Offense Pivots had an overall rating of 669, with an average quality of 81, had gained 32 experience points and were 18 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  163 field play, 131 shooting, 123 aggressiveness, and 95 technique.

(Defensive Positions)

Defense backs had an overall rating of 623, with an average quality of 80, had gained 38 experience points and were 19 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  149 field play, 103 blocking, 87 passing, and 80 technique.

Defense wings had an overall rating of 630, with an average quality of 78, had gained 37 experience points and were 19 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  154 field play, 101 speed, 97 blocking, and 85 technique.

Defense pivots had an overall rating of 619, with an average quality of 78, had gained 36 experience points and were 18 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  155 field play, 114 shooting, 100 passing and 88 blocking.

(Keeper Postion)

Keepers had an overall rating of 624, with an average quality of 82, had gained 48 experience points and were 19 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  195 goalkeeping, 152 blocking, and 109 passing.

With all  data collected, one final task, determine the build settings for automatic practice.  The guide below is fairly easy to follow.  Each position has been listed with their attributes to the left and to the right is the build setting for automatic practice for each attribute (automatic practice is only available to players using Pro Pack).

Mission complete.  The anatomy of a World Championship Team (Handball) is complete.  (note... the information used to compile this data was based on the World Handball Championship (Season 4).

(Subnote:)  The question has already been ask, why not this year's World Championship Teams.  That could be another story...
