So what happens when a player is dropped from his team, and nobody picks him up? Does he just sit in the database for years and years?
Yep. I pulled this guy (Lex Kinsey ) in season 2, sold him in season 3, and his new team fired him later that season. I assume he went on the market after that and no one wanted him. So he is forever 16 years old and just taking up space in the db.
I have pulled two players recently with very high qualities in passing, technique, and aggressiveness. I wonder whether it is worth it to train them in all three as C/W types or whether I need to commit to a position with them to avoid putting time into a skill they don't (or won't) need.
It's up to you, but he would be in time a way weaker complete forward (C+W) than a specialized one... so, I think you should pick one of these positions and stick to it 
Can anyone explain the randomness of the all star selection? I've had players with 4-5 goal and 3 assists in a game yet they lose out to a player who only scored 3 goals and 1 assist. (random example)Or a goalie that has numerous shutouts losing out to a goalie that gave up 4 goals in a loss. What am i not figuring out?
Most likely, its quality of opponent. Holding a top team to a couple goals is more all-star worthy than shutting out an AI-run team.

Yet it only played 3 lines in today's game.... Any idea's?

In Hockey ( and football ) what is the maximum number of staff you can have assigned to a facility. Example I have HR11 and 3 managers. But can only assign 2.
You can only assign 2 in hockey and football, one head and one assistant.
does anyone know how the opponent of the Relegation Playoff game against a lower league is selected? Is it random from any of the leagues below or is there a way to know?
I believe the person from the highest league of the 4 lower leagues plays the person who ends with the lowest ranking. I.e. for league II.1, 16th place would play 2nd place from III.1, 15th would play III.5, and so on.
I'm looking for advice on arena custodians. Previously I had two arena custodians each at 50/50 and their combined costs were greater than what they were saving me in maintenance.
However I have made a lot of upgrades to my arena and the maintenance costs are nearly to a million per day, So I'm wondering if now it would benefit me to have them.
My maintenance center is only level 9 at the moment and it will be another season or more before I can improve upon it, Thank you.
