Movember
Today, November 1st is the first day of the Movember campaign. This campaign's goal is to raise awareness on the dangers of testicular and prostate cancer. This campaign will help raise funds to fight against those cancers.
A lot of sportsmans around the world are relaying this movement. The ones you are most probably aware of are NHL players. But in each country around the world you'll probably find one of your favorite player participating. This is a 10 years old movement now that originated in Australia.
The principle behind all this is very simple. You shave today or even tomorrow or the day after if you missed the start of it today. If you already have a beard or a goatee, you need to shave it. Even the mustache part. During all of November, you will let you mustache grow and only the mustache. No beard or goatees are allowed. It's now or never for you to try the mustache, since you now have an excuse to let it grow! And you know what is fantastic about all this? Nobody is going to mock the 3 or 4 hairy things battling on your upper lip! Why, because you're a knight fighting a just cause.
To participate yourself, you only need to register on Movember. They will ask you the usual stuff required for a registration as well as if you want to join a team. I've asked for the creation of a PowerPlay Manager network. So if you participate, I'll give you a link to the network very soon I hope. The goal behind all this is to raise as much funds as we can to fight against prostate and testicular cancer. If you create a team for your country, please let me know. I can't add you to the team I created in France, but I will try to integrate your group to the network.
If you can't donate yourself, it's not important, you can still try to raise funds by contacting your friends, your family, at work, at the university, your teachers etc. If you can't raise funds either, it's ok. It's not easy for men to talk about personnal stuff. Imagine talking about really intimate stuff like this. So participating is helping already.
Anyway, I will try to keep you regularly informed about the donations we managed to get throughout this campaign. I would like to thank while I'm at it PPM who kindly authorized me to talk about this on this website using whatever tools I had at hand. I would like to thank as well those who will propagate this message on the forums here, on their facebook page or on twitter.
Finally, today I made a sacrifice. My beard is gone but its for a good cause. I'm sure yours is tickling, so don't hesitate and join the mustache movement!
(If you wish to make a donation straight away without registering yourself on the website and without waiting for the PowerPlay manager network, you can do so directly on my Movember page)
