unfortunately, I think the game is the way it is to try to allow teams to move up as quickly as possible. The difference in OTR you can make may be approximately 16 points with 7 or 8 less loses and 2/3 OTR points of D2. Those 16 points from league and assuming the energy saving allows you to get maybe 3 more rounds in the cup (8-16 points) with like 5 extra points from CWC+ 3-7 points from each round which at least doubles your OTR savings anyway makes up a total of at least 18 million dollars. Including goal scoring money, You may only get an additional 5-10 million more dollars at the end of the season.
However, you also should be missing out on a healthy amount of ticket revenue. Your Stadium is expected to grow to 15600 capacity early in the season. That was about where some of the top D1 teams were selling out at. That stadium shouldn't have a problem with making you about a million in profit per game. However, you could have borderline sold out as soon as those large stands were built in D2, giving you probably an additional 3K-5K over the season resulting in a 5.7 to 9 million dollar loss
Even with the ticket loss included (without counting tournaments) You're still making more money and building a stronger club, I don't think anyone has really gone this deep into the advantages of sandbagging in the game. I hope this gives those who are unfamiliar a better understanding. I could have also done a better job of getting harder numbers up there, but they should be accurate enough to demonstrate the point.

For me this game, and all other similar games, are about winning. I try my hardest to win the league, the playoffs, and make it to the highest league.
Even if its possible to make more money by sandbagging, its goes against my whole view of the point of the game. What fun is it to beat up on weak teams when you can be competing where you should be?
Sandbagging is lame. Grow a pair and compete.

Exploiting the game design is better than trying to compete... ok got it!
You cant blame him, do you know hom many teams in hockey have been doing the same thing for season on end. Win the league and then get knocked out in the playoffs. Do I agree with it absolutely not but the Devs dont see anything wrong with so there really isn't a point in trrying to reason with people like that. I at leat give zomg some credit for having the balls to admit to sandbagging. Others sandbag and try to play it off.
I'm sorry, but just what are you praising him for? Telling the truth about sandbagging? Come on, it wasn't even possible for him to hide the fact that he sandbagged, he lost the relegation matches to a Non! That's exactly why he got called out. Please.

I agree that he did something terrible and most of it is how blatantly he did sandbag. If he had played with forwards for defense and vice versa, whould as many people noticed, or better yet, if he would have at least tested how well a wing mid would play a deep forward or a center forward.
If anything, the outrage of yours from samuri's whistle blow has to get the attention of the devs and mods (not like they didn't know about it anyways) and come up with solutions to possibly make promotion worth more.

By all means, complain loudly about sandbagging - I'll be right there with you. Let the devs know that exploiting the system in this way is unacceptable and needs to be fixed, because I really don't want to be tempted again next season. My hockey finances increased every season until I moved into League II, and have been mostly stagnant since. I'm not looking forward to having to decide if I want to drop down if I end up in relegation position again after the playoffs.

Well, there's no ducking promotion after an undefeated season, so I'm out of your hair now III.4 . Hope a bunch of the new teams that recently joined stick around, and good luck to the Water Pumps in the promotion round.
I hope I can give you a little comfort while auto promoting. I'm working on a sponsorship analysis.
Oh make no mistake, I definitely want to promote now. The promotion bonuses implemented this season make moving up well worth it, so much so that I'm going to be trying my best to promote again to I.1 next season. I think I'd have the highest OTR in the U.S. by quite a bit if I manage to pull that off, though it won't be easy.
Another thing you commented on last season you may be interested in - I don't think I lost any significant ticket revenue by staying in III.4 for one more season. Almost every home game was a sellout, even against NoNames in 17th place. Whatever the attendance cap is in the III leagues, it's higher than 19,200 for the first place team.

I'm not going to give up my reign as the OTR leader. Your really going to have to work for it!
Well I'm not sure about working for the lead, but I'm sure gonna try to steal it!
I just glanced through all the promoting II league teams, and you might be down to 4th at the start of next season, though I imagine the Champion's League games will get you back in the lead before too long.

very interesting, I had trouble selling out a >10,000 stadium when I was trouncing around middle to rear places in the beginning of the year. It took a little while to get consistent sell outs.
Your high OTR, league place, and the fact that stadiums can hold much much more helped that much more than I would have guessed.
Good luck in D2! Though you'd have to go far in the super league cup (assuming you win the league cup)
