Do you notice how I am for the most part quiet. Normally, listening to others prattling on about themselves doesn't bother me that much. It's only when it gets really, REALLY irritating do I finally step in. I was actually kind enough to the GM's to try and shoo away the cross-dresser who seemed determined to make people here look foolish. I gave up after watching certain individuals roll out the red and try to relive their teen years with "the hot little number from Czech" (scroll up and back folks!) Too bad he was a guy...

Well, I tried but no one listened. Probably just like now. Oh well, prattle on. I will be back when that noise goes beyond my limits again...

Well paul, a lot to address here. I'll try to go in order from your posts.

For someone who claims to want to grow the game and keep new managers, I feel attacking the only ones who post on the forum with baseless and imagined grievances is not the way to go. This makes you look petty, and hypocritical for calling other managers petty.

How does SamuelCarrier have anything ill gotten? This is a weird comment. Hating on him cause he has more fake money than you. Nothing in this game is "ill-gotten". It's a game, and if there are ways to "game" they are available to everyone, so why don't you go ahead and do it? If he has more money and you're jealous, maybe manage you team better.

Your attack on Bobby Jay is ridiculous. All I've seen from him is he's a nice guy. His "long forum posts" are more help to new managers than accepting friendly games. I would say you've done more damage to PPM Canada with your weird posts than help. I also looked back and don't see him being "duped" by camilla anywhere.

I've always thought you were weird, but now you're coming across as creepy with comments such as "cross dressing beauty queen", "incestuous relationships" "hot little number from Czech" and "fat child in the corner". You sound creepy, mean, judgemental and annoying.

Again with the hypocrisy of complaining about people "whining" about things when you come here and complain about garbage you make up in your head.

To address your comments on the advice given to players to get triple seats built and sell players, yeah it's good advice. Why keep a player with high attributes if he'll be like 1500 1/6 and useless, when you can flip them for between 20-100 mil? That makes a big difference for new teams. When I started, I got a 99 EQ goalie from the SA. I sold him for $100 mil and got my first triple seat, which was a huge jumpstart for my team. It worked better when there were more divisions in Canada so there was more of a range of team strength, but it still makes sense. It's not other managers fault if it's not fun for new managers to wait and build up now cause there are only 2 divs so new teams get stomped. That's on PPM for not maintaining player interest and attracting new players. Also, there's no such thing as selling players directly to other players. Every player goes to the market and anyone can bid.

I don't know why you're obsessed with new people managing NT teams. It's a lot of work to do it well and I don't think it'd even be that fun for new players. There are 6 NT manager positions in Canada, that's not enough to keep a bunch of new managers around as it is, especially with you going on and on about how hard and long it is to build a team up. Oh, there you go again, making things worse for PPM Canada by telling new managers it's pointless.

Also, there's no "hiding" FA's in lower divisions, I guess you didn't know this, but there are things called filters on the market and you can use them to search for high OR players and sell all the FA's that are above a certain OR each night. Pretty sure other managers do that and don't go digging through other countries managers and waiting for specific players to come up for FA bids. Can people target other managers? Sure. Are there gonna be many people that want to spend a lot of time to try and mess up other peoples teams in other countries? Unlikely.

As for your weird 3 point "guide", teams will bounce up and down as there are teams that get demoted every year. It's literally the game. And due to the lack of lower divisions and lack of a good OTR range among teams caused by low amount of managers, it's likely the same teams bounce up and down a lot.

TL/DR: Paul's weird posts are getting weird and creepy and he's making up imagined grievances and likely scaring away new managers as well as annoying the only other managers who will post on these forums.

To be honest, I don't really care what you say. My opinions about other managers and their self-aggrandizing comments is called my opinion. Anyone can go back and read them on their own. New players need to play the game, not watch themselves lose every day and receive lengthy sermons from the managers who have played for a long time. The PPM game can't help them. Holding on to all the national team keys doesn't help them either. So we choke out the game. I at least care.

If you got yourself 99M for a low-OR pick up when you started the game you should consider yourself a lottery pick winner. Good for you. Go tell new players the way to get rich is to play the lottery like yourself. That sounds like a Lotto 649 advertisement. And it is the stupid poor people that will listen.

There are not six NT positions available there are two. Your boy over there runs the other two teams and, as I have said, he is not known to be particularly altruistic. I am just waiting for someone to tell me that he gave the assistant job on the U18 team to a newbie named Skipman. Skipman is one of the original GM's in this game. Your Bobby Jay has run the senior team and the U18 for years (real time now) and anybody who pays attention to this game knows that. Don't bother me with fuzzy math.

Oh I understand the FA system very well thank you. Teams in the top division are watched more, obviously, since they are in the marquis league. That, usually, is where the top FA talent is. Not everyone just buys there FA's off the market's daily "red list". No, they check out teams specifically. At least the smart GM's do because you can guess if the guy will really pay or let the guy go. Then decide on your bid.

As for my guide, what does that have to do with you. You win every season, and it isn't close. You have absolutely no knowledge of what happens down at the bottom. Nobody was talking about you in the first place. Case in point - I noticed a bunch of top talent (i.e. vets) on the market last night. Div. II Black Metal, who is coming up next season, selling off all of his worthwhile vets. That's his choice. He'll go right back down next season. Most GM's do it and so does he. That's reality for most blue collar players in this game and has zero relevance to you.

Again, I don't care what you think. I hope I have answered all of your concerns. Oh right, the cross-dresser. Well, I just find it strange when GM's from other countries come across and start criticizing our national team performances when they are completely new to the game. Seems odd, no? Or maybe not. Actually, your right. With my "creepy comments" on the boards maybe that is what attracts all the weirdos to come on over and see what they can dredge up.

I will say what I want thanks. If you don't like it, try to ignore the garbage like I always do. See how long it lasts...

Allow me to summarize my recent comments. The PPM game is a pyramid scheme. It relies on new players. If they don't come in, the pyramid collapses. The entire PPM game is anyways, but in Canada we are speeding it up. That is because we now only have two divisions. For a new guy, Div. 2 is a mix of oversized teams at the top, defunct teams at the bottom, and a few competitive games in between. Div.1 is way out of reach. They lose regularly, the arena and facilities take a hell of a lot time to build, and the veteran players tell them to sell their only worthwhile players. It's like church - give us your money, say your prayers and someday you will go to heaven. The world doesn't fall for this as much nowadays...

The only level playing field is the national teams, since there is no advantage for being a long-time player of the PPM game. But that's off-limits. It is off-limits because of some guy and his buddies. I give it to Bobby Jay - he is loyal. He is willing to deal with the big player body of the National team, and I certainly have voted for him before. But not anymore. Not since he began running too long and too many of the teams. We should share. No, we don't have to. That is what the Tragedy of the Commons means. But I will repeat: when a new guy comes in, sees the mountain they need to climb just to become competitive and knowing that the only fun area to keep them busy in the meantime is run by some loud-mouthed buddha and his monks that keep him clutching on to power, then no one should wonder why they leave the game.

Your obsession with the NT managers is weird. You make it out to be the only thing that will keep new players in. It's not. When there were tons of managers here, there were never multitudes of managers trying to become NT manager. Just because you put it up on a pedestal doesn't mean others do.

I shouldn't have said started. It wasn't my first season I sold that player. Can't remember exactly as it was years ago, but he was around 300 OR start of season. Getting a player with Q's that good is rare, but not as rare as the lotto. And when you sell a player like that, they will go for lots. I've bought numerous 15 year old players for 50 mil and above.

There are 6 positions available. 3 managers and 3 assistant. Just because the position is currently occupied doesn't mean it doesn't exist. It's also a voting system. So if you don't like who is currently manager, get someone to run and get others to vote for them. There's not even that many votes in the elections. Seems like that would be easier than coming here and whining about things like you do.

You saying things like "your boy" is weird. I've barely ever talked to Bobby Jay. I said he seems nice from what I've seen in the forums. I vote for him cause he's done a good job with the teams, and I'd rather someone who sticks around and pays attention manage the team than someone like Creasemonkeys who leaves it vacant mid season. You don't like that, again find someone else to run and help them get elected.

Your issue is you're making all these weird assumptions in your head about other people. There's not some sort of clique. There are just barely any people that post in these forums. And barely anyone votes in the elections, and the people that do go with the person who's put a lot of time into the NT. I myself don't have time to run a NT, nor would I want to as it is a lot of work. If you think there's a "clique" it's cause your posts are mostly weird drivel and your argumentative and people probably just don't like you. You've done that to yourself.

Have you surveyed other managers to verify this poaching you talk about? Or is this another delusion you've created? I'm in the top 20 teams in the world, so according to you I should be getting insane bids on all my FA's right? I had a 3000 OR winger get a 50 mil bid the other week, which is below market value for him. I've had bids which seem excessive and some which are low like that.

Also, I don't understand why you think new managers should be NT managers. Assistants sure. But a new player shouldn't be NT manager right away cause then you end up with managers like Crease Monkey abandoning the team and wasting a season.

As for the guide, if you don't want people commenting on things don't post in a public forum lmao.

One thing you didn't address is how posting weird comments, and comments where you specifically say it's hard and not fun to start a new team in the forums is likely doing more damage to PPM Canada than someone being the NT manager for years in a row.

I'll keep it short. I will say what I have been saying all along: I tell them the TRUTH. You have a long wait, the go-to-man for basically all national team elections is the guy running 2 of the 3 teams and the same old faces that vote for him and anyone who challenges that is "delusional". You guys feed them what you want. I don't post long, rambling diatribes about trying hard and building this first and selling their best players to the top GM's. I save those long, rambling diatribes for you.

If the game is built like a pyramid scheme, it is definitely not my fault or any other single managers's fault. All we can do for others is be welcoming and give advice when asked. I have tried to do this when possible.

Other than that, I don't agree with getting targeted for the game's weaknesses. Yet, I accept these weaknesses and keep playing it. I don't believe that makes me good, bad, or anything in between. It's just what it is. I hope all players of this game enjoy it and have a fulfilling life around it.

With all that was said, I just want to point out that if you, Paul, were to run for GM of a NT, I would likely vote for you again because I believe you are competent and care enough to put the work in even though I will never care to try to befriend you.

I have questions.
As a national manager of past Canadian national teams in hockey/soccer 16 times, how do you escape being in the the Buddah's "fat kid" clique?
As a person concerned about our national teams, why are you now, and in the past into the management of off shore teams?
What level of energy is required to maintain such a pessimistic outlook day after day?
Why do you not fire your research assistant who provides you with such obviously biased and unsubstantiated information?
What life events has led to the creation of such a bitter, pessimistic, socialist outlook?
Does the sun ever shine in the paulroedb world?
Given that you have every right to determine your own life path, why would you choose to stay on this one?
Why are so many of your posts so diametrically in opposition to each other?
How many milliseconds do you reflect before "turning loose the hounds" of rebuttal?

Yup, I took the team. And then I stood down when others came knocking. You don't remember three years ago, aye, when this all started? I stepped down and challenged other GM's to do the same. Get on the email boards and try to encourage the new guys to take part. Nope, you especially didn't listen.

You really want me to go back into my mailbox and show you the letters I sent to some of the guys that were running for office? I will if you ask really, really nicely. And I will post them HERE.

I have spent YEARS with new players trying to get them a break in this game. And I finally gave up on the national teams (oh sorry, except for football). If I remember right, three years ago Krokador (if you remember her), suggested I go and run a handball club. That was really nice of her...[sarcasm included]...and I let her know that on the public boards. I took it a step further and went to Holland, where decent individuals vote for their national team.

They are the worst team in the U20 world. You soon will get a close-up look with the Canadian Senior team. But I do my best to get them up a bit higher. And I think the Dutch guys support me. And, I ASSURE YOU, if any one of the new guys in Holland shows ANY INTEREST in running the club, I will step down immediately and offer them my services as an assistant, to help the game grow in Holland.

Then perhaps I will move on to the Senior Bosnia and Herzegovina club. And you and I can muck it up down there in the mud.

By the way, if you stick with the game and build into a contender, I strongly suggest going through the chat boards in the archives and look up articles by Canuck 357 (or just message him yourself, he runs the Redshift). This guy is really close to the mechanics of this game and wrote a lot of really useful stuff on the specifics of how the hockey engine works.

(Too bad - the PPM game seems to only save mail from around a year ago. This is a guy who ran for the U20 team and failed miserably. I offered him some help. He, of course, is now a defunct club.)

I strongly recommend reading the guide. It was written in an odd way - it doesn't answer many questions directly, rather merely gives the best general direction. It leaves the game(s) open in to some interpretation, which is part of the game's charm.

To answer your question, yes and no. What's more important is the training ratio. If it is balanced, you get maximum performance out of your player. If not, depending on the problem, it might show up in penalties. If you have the time, for hockey at least, this is the accepted opinion:

Center - train them at a 2:1:1 ration (offence:pass:technique). That is, and I will suggest some of the Mudcats for you too scout, Matthew Allen is something like 900 offence, 450 pass and 450 technique. Aggression for a center doesn't matter. Shot does, but Allen's training for shot is shitty, so it is only set for half of the offence number. This is on a case-by-case for centers, depending on their training number. Allen also has poor defensive training so I don't bother adding any PK training for him.

Wing - pretty straightforward too. 2:1:1 (offence:tech:aggression) with preferably a high shot ratio (anywhere from 70-100% of offence). If you train defence he can play PK, and if the guy has a decent passing training number then some training here makes him a powerplay specialist. Check out Junior Harvey for a good example. The only thing he can't do is pass.

Goal - 2:1:1 (goal:pass:tech) That's it. Nothing else. Ivan Zalaba on my time looks like a future world beater. He IS the franchise...

Defence - the most complex. It's 2:1:1 (defence:pass:aggression) but technique is the big question mark. A lot of the newer players think that technique only needs to be half of the pass/aggression numbers and that is enough. Hardcore/traditional players seem of the mind that it should be the same as pass/aggression (so 2:1:1:1). I favour the latter but what I do is look at a player's training on technique and then make a call, anywhere between the two extremes. Check out Jayden McQuaig (before I sell him) for a good compromise guy who was also trained as a PK specialist.

Hope it is clear but I surely recommend the guide. It is filled with good info. If you are playing football I can't help you. I have never heard any definitive theories on the training there so you might want to enquire with other GM's.

Yeah, the tactics learning curve is high at the start...
A couple of other things:
Sponsorship offers come in on Thurs, Fri and Sat this week. This is your money for next season so make sure your HR manager head is the guy with the highest marketing number.

The last week of the season is a good time to play your younger guys on very high energy. very high gives higher experience and their energy will reset at season end anyways.

As for the U20, I am pretty sure you won't win. The establind GM's are careful about putting new guys in since this has happened before where the guy drops the game and the national team sinks. The Magma guy will most likely win. Best is to offer to be his assistant and learn the ropes. If you want help, my relationship with him is pretty good and I can recommend.
