The Anatomy of a World Champion: Soccer

The Anatomy of a World Champion: Soccer

I have often thought, "What does it take to be a champion"?  The answer is not simple to find.  Lots of observations, evaluations, and analyses are required to even attempt to determine such things.  ... and just when you think you've found the answer, the equations or calculations are altered or effected by outside factors that may or may not have been considered in the original calculations.  That said.  I still want to know, what does a World Champion Player looks like.

For this article, I have scouted and evaluated ALL of the players who played in the last World Cup Championship game and determined a typical build for that game.  I realize that is a far cry from a perfect analysis of the perfect player, understand, that was not the goal for this writing.  I only seek to see what a typical player looks like that plays in a PPM World Cup Championship game.

I have looked at overall average stats, average stats per general position (offense, midfield, defense, goalkeeper), average stats per specific position (fullback, centre back, etc...).  Beyond just determining typical stats, training styles for each position were also examined.  What percentage growth per attribute were players trained?  What is the anatomy of a World Champion?

Step 1:  Typical Stats for a player in the World Cup

The typical player for the World Cup Championship game was determined to have an overall rating of 2115, with an average quality of 84, had gained 124 experience points and was 26 years of age.

Step 2:  Typical Stats per Player Type

Forwards had an overall rating of 2180, with an average quality of 86, had gained 127 experience points and were 26 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  533 offense, 498 shooting, 396 speed, and 320 technique.

Midfielders had an overall rating of 2121, with an average quality of 84, had gained 124 experience points and were 27 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  615 midfield, 395 passing, 389 technique, and 320 speed.

Defenders had an overall rating of 2102, with an average quality of 84, had gained 123 experience points and were 26 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  637 defense, 404 speed, 338 passing, 323 technique, and 259 heading.  For goalkeepers, see the next section for details..

Step 3:  Typical Stats per Player Position

(Forward Positions)

Centre forwards had an overall rating of 2182, with an average quality of 86, had gained 139 experience points and were 26 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  539 offense, 507 shooting, 405 speed, and 307 technique.

Right forwards had an overall rating of 2172, with an average quality of 84, had gained 93 experience points and were 26 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  515 offense, 473 shooting, 371 speed, and 361 technique, and 237 passing.

Left forwards were not used in the World Cup Final examined.

(Midfielder Positions)

Center midfielders had an overall rating of 2170, with an average quality of 84, had gained 120 experience points and were 26 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  617 midfield, 465 passing, 461 technique, and 180 speed.

Right wide midfielders had an overall rating of 2125, with an average quality of 85, had gained 105 experience points and were 26 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  431 speed, 418 midfield, 335 technique, 303 passing , 227 shooting and 197 offense.

Left wide midfielders had an overall rating of 2044, with an average quality of 83, had gained 146 experience points and were 28 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  612 midfield, 459 speed, 313 passing, and 310 technique.

(Defender Positions)

Right fullbacks had an overall rating of 2080, with an average quality of 84, had gained 125 experience points and were 27 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  637 defense, 404 speed, 338 passing, 323 technique, and 259 heading.

Left fullbacks had an overall rating of 2151, with an average quality of 86, had gained 117 experience points and were 26 years of age.  Their best attributes were:  646 defense, 481 speed, 346 passing, 333 technique, and 191 heading.

With all of the data collected, my last goal was to determine the build settings for automatic practice, (for managers hoping to build like a championship team).  The guide below is fairly easy to follow.  Each position has been listed with their attributes to the left and to the right is the build setting for automatic practice for each attribute (automatic practice is only available to players using Pro Pack).
