My goalie is mvp of all leagues. His current streak is over 1100 minuts.

Yeah Mk had crazy formation, with 5 defenders and 4 defensive midfielders, and it worked.

Something seems a bit off about it, he had 9 shots to my 6 with almost no offensive strength. Maybe he's unlocked the key to PPM soccer

Didn't PPM introduce some sort of unspecified penalty for "unorthodox formations" a few seasons ago?

I think as long as you have at least one player in each of the main zones (LD, CD, RD, LM, CM, RM and CF), you won't be penalized.

Thanks I guess. Granted a 5-4-1 is unusual, but I wouldn't say its weird enough for the formation penalty. Its not unheard of in the sport and I've seen it as an option in other manager games. First time I tried it on any of them tho. I figured that was a stone cold loss, I just wanted to limit the GD.

5-4-1 is a pretty legit formation.

Yeah, my annoyance at the result isn't losing - a draw is actually what I would expect and a 1 goal win or loss is perfectly fine too. I'm mostly concerned with how a very defensive formation vs a fairly offensive one can generate more shots. Whether or not those shots go in is up to RNG of shooter vs goalie, but it seems like an engine flaw that the defensive formation gets more shots than the offensive one, when team strengths, taking into account rating and energy usage, are very similar.

I just don't see how a 15 rated offense vs a 65 rated defense should be able to get more than a couple shots, certainly not 9, especially when the 51 rated offense vs the 67 rated defense only gets 6.

zomg, it is a very valid point you make. I was very lucky. I certainly understand your annoyance. My understanding of the 5-4-1 (or the 4-5-1) is that while they are very defensive, they are also built for the counterattack.
Though I do think, or at least thought, I made good tactical choices.
Runny, is your laughter more about tactics or formation or both? The tactics and formation, in my mind, gave me the best chance and made the most sense to me. Hopefully I didn't look too silly.

It's a legit formation. Do what you have to do, to get a win. Upsets happen in real life, and should be part of this game also.
