I'm in a similar position. There's a couple of managers I'd like to see run, but I'm going to run as well. I'll post a description of the players I would be looking for sometime this weekend.

I like the look of those, I may have to contract you to make some jerseys and logos for my team.

Let me start off by introducing myself to those of you I have not had the opportunity to interact with. I’m a 29-year old college student majoring in Mathematics and Economics. I’m a little older than the typically college student due to a 6-year stint in the US Navy. I’m happily married and the father of a 1.5 year old daughter. While these responsibilities take away the majority of my free time, PPM is set-up in a fashion where I can make moves and transactions days in advance if necessary. This is part of the reason why PPM is my game of choice. I started playing PPM during season 3 in hockey and I quickly began absorbing as much information from the guide and forums as I could. With the addition of soccer, myself and many others (those who did not join hockey early) were given a chance to compete on a more balance field than hockey. My soccer team has performed well and given me many exciting moments, especially during the live broadcasts. I believe this excitement about the game and my desire to optimize my team through research sets a solid foundation for success in PPM.

The criteria I would use to choose NT players would be: in-game ratings, ratio, effective qualities, shooting attribute, experience, age, CL, career path (combination of age/CL), the level of the team’s training and regeneration facilities, positional flexibility (Ex: side midfielders and defenders that are universal) and the team’s energy and player rotation habits (a prominent backup at the same position is a plus). These are listed in no particular order of importance.

For ratios, I understand that there are a variety of ratios that have their own merits and flaws. I would expect most players to be using a ratio somewhere in the range of: 1 (primary): (0.6 - 0.8) (Major): (0.4 - 0.65) (Medium): (0.2 - 0.45) (Minor). Shooting would be weighted more for forwards than midfielders and more for midfielders than defenders. Effective qualities would be calculated based upon the ratio the player is currently trained at, assuming that the ratio is close to what other national team players at that position are being trained at. In-game ratios from next season would be used, rather than this season. Thus, it would be difficult for me to state how high of an in-game rating would be necessary to make the team. However, if a player is currently scoring a 10+ in-game rating (11+ for defenders), then they will probably be in consideration next season.

As many of you may know, I’ve been keeping a database of American players who have been scoring high in-game ratings this season. This list was primarily for me to be able to scout as many of these players as possible. The purpose of this was to have not only information about how other teams are training their players for my own use, but to also have a head start on scouting for the national team. Regardless of the outcome of the election, this data will be made available to the national team manager.

Assuming a roster size of 40 players, I’d aim for: 1-2 players at each position that are currently the best at their position and are not expected to be surpassed next season (primarily players currently under 20 years old with a CL of 5 or 6), 1-2 players at each position that are near the top at their position and are expected to become the best at their position in the next 1-2 seasons (players currently 17 and younger), and the remaining roster spots (5-7) would be reserved for high quality, young players (i.e. currently 15 years old) who are expected to become the best at their position in the next 3-4 seasons. If there are not enough players that fit the last category to round out the roster, then depth will be added where it would be most beneficial. The default team formation would be a 4-4-2. Other formations would be used if deemed strategically superior for a given matchup or if necessary due to injuries, training camps, etc.

Good luck in college. As a math major myself I understand it's quite difficult. Then add your little kid and in a way I can't imagine how the heck you manage to get any sleep.

@Jojo - Thanks. School isn't too bad really. I don't go to a top school, but it feels fairly easy to me. I think part of that is due to the discipline I gained from my military experience and just getting older.

@jimrtex and mikok - Thanks for your support, I appreciate it. (Even if its for the hockey position, lol)

@Blackkat - I think we share the same basic mentality when it comes to things related to the national team. Feel free to copy/paste and edit the parts that are different. I think you should also run. I think the more active managers we have interested in the national team manager position (and the national team in generally), the better it will be for the USA PPM community.

Has anyone else noticed the German & Italy database requests that have come across our US forums lately? The are using the same site along with 4-5 other courties. I wonder if we need to either join this site as a country or even create our own?

I'll take the advice Obryantj gave Blackkat, just copy and paste parts that are I want to dissent in. (I'll share some my personal background in my manager bid)

My ratios would be just a little different: 1 (primary): (0.66 - 0.8) (Major): (0.42 - 0.6) (Medium): (0.25 - 0.4) (Minor). Also, players who may play positions adjacent to other zones (like an offensive or defensive mid) should have the adjacent primary attributes that are roughly equivalent to or less than minor attributes. Secondary attributes ideally should be changed a little to accommodate players roaming into different positions, but it probably won't make a great difference until players develop much more in the game.
As far as shooting is concerned, I don't really mind what that attribute is from Midfield back. Except I think it is very important to have a Center Mid that has a strong to reasonable shooting ability for set pieces.
In Forwards I like to see consistent goal scoring or abnormal passing. I think a well rounded forward can be worth more than a good rating, especially if there are Mids that can support offence.

I like mids that have some kind of extra utility to affect either defense or offence. Such players can really liberalize what can be done with a line-up.

Defenders, Rating I think is very reliable and important as a measure of who is good and who isn't. I think there should be at least one defender with increased passing and technique to allow more forward play from midfield.

I personally would like a roster of: 2 Goalies, 7 Defenders (one universal side Def), 8 mids, and 3 or 4 forwards; all with decent experience (between 25-50)

I'm a fan of defense first formations. I almost always will have 5 players in the last three zones. My personal favorite that I use in my club team is a 5-4-1 along with alternate 4-1-2-1-2 and 5-2-1-2 formations (no distinction between defenders).

I want to state that my criteria as anyone's are basically the same as Obrayntj's, but I like players that can fill adjacent positions, especially wing mids. A lot may change with the new engine with shooting and a lot of offence should be generated from midfield. To conclude, there is no wrong choice for NT manager and thanks to Obrayantj and others for scouting and developing a database for this upcoming team.
