Although not that much elegant, your definition was a quite interesting one. And I must add it fits some of my matches this season.
Level of importance is manager's decision. What and when to choose shows how good manager, you are.
Saving energy is important in this game. Nobody stops you to play all of your games at v. high 
sometimes big clubs lose against small clubs.. but we all know witch team is better team.. with more motivation (energy) this can happen. But in 42 matches in season if team is very good (with smart manager) they will be on the top anyway.. you can`t expected to play let say on "normal" all the time and nobody can stop you... this is boring this team that surprise you will be probably lower then you at the end of the season

There are some bigger and obvious issues to be solved in this game.
Make in game sub when a player is injured.
Red card for keper.
Punish managers that dont set changes for red card.
(you cant leave a hole in middle or defence and win a game)

I second that. Wales has some very good teams and would compete with many other national teams.
would be nice if we could actually see the team strength after each matches, not only after league matches. the way it updates now is not particularly helpful for experimenting with different players and skill distributions (cause you can't always afford to make experiments in league matches)
I agree, especially as most of us use friendlies to test new line ups.
that's what you have ratings for.
but they are not quite the same thing, are they? ratings only show me how an individual player performs on a certain position. if i want to know how 2 different line-ups perform, i have to compare the team strength of those 2 different line-ups in different matches, don't i?
you are right about that, but you were talking about skill distributions. still, we do not plan to update team strength after each match. It would be misleading for the users.
So you are saying that engine for friendly and league match ain't same?
is that what you understood from that? No, I'm saying people use different lineups for friendlies and their team strength would be misleading on some days.
you could just show the team strength in every match report and you could let the Team Strength indicator in the Team Profile page as it is now (showing only the strength of the team in league matches). problem solved!
