American League i1 Weekly Wrapup: Wk5

American League i1 Weekly Wrapup: Wk5

This week saw Capitol Hill, Miami Rage and Irresistable Force continue their good form from last week winning all three matches taking them each to a record of 7 wins from their last 8 matches.  The great play by Miami Rage coupled with the Wasphawks losing two of three matches this week sees the Wasphawks drop two positions from 2nd to 4th allowing the Miami Rage move up into 2nd spot and the STL Saints to move into the top 3.

On the other side of the coin N.©.New York Hellraisers, Tri-City Storm and Illusion of Progress all had terrible weeks losing their three matches and this sees them all slide further down the leader board.

The biggest changes in team strength this week were both caused by injuries to goalies.  Quitungo Ice SS starter Adrian Mata succumbed to a right forearm tendon inflammation which will see him likely miss the next week as well.  Irresistable Force team MVP goalie Korey Buckley is reportedly healing quickly from his broken ankle and has already started skating but is not yet fully fit with the team taking a cautious approach to their star goalies injury.

"We expect him to be back at the Red Wings on Friday for sure" commented team owner Leggman in an interview this morning. "As much as we'd like to have him back for the Saints today and for our Champion's League game on Thursday we have to take a long-term approach to this situation and get him back 100% so this thing doesn't re-occur or linger. We hate to open up the national cup without him on Tuesday but that's just the way it's got to be for now."
Backup goalie Adam Polivka was not available for comment.

The highlight matchup was won by the Wasphawks 4:2 over the N.©.New York Hellraisers.  The N.©.New York Hellraisers showed a real lack of discipline during the game committing seven 2 minute minors allowing the Wasphawks to skip away to a 2:0 lead after scoring twice on the power play.  From that point on, the N.©.New York Hellraisers were never in the game and will need to play with more discipline in future if they want to get back in the winners circle.

This coming week’s highlight matchup sees the underperforming Michigan Goldhawks take on the red hot Capitol Hill on Friday. I am tipping the Michigan Goldhawks with their slight edge in defence and goaltending as well as on the penalty kill to put a brief stop to the winning ways of Capitol Hill.

Good luck to all as we approach the mid-way point of the season.
