and neil hasnt been suspended since 2003, so he'll probably get 1 game, HAH
Torres only got that many games because he is not a star player and he is a recent repeat offender. That and the fans and media have been clamoring for tougher enforcement, so Shanaban threw the book at him. You will not see any others that long for the duration of the playoffs.
do you think making predefined suspensions for head shots would work?
say if its deemed to be a headshot, first time you get 10 games, 2nd you get 20, 3rd 30, 4th you're done.

There'd have to be a fine print section, where it needn't apply to those who get more than 40 points a season.
Thank god Neil didn't get anything, would hate for hitting to get out of the game. Why the hell is every big hit now dirty in the eyes of so many people? That hit was not late, didn't hit the head, didn't charge, didn't leave the feet, seriously, it was a good hit.
i think its because of the lack of consistency in the calls, its less about that hit in particular, and more about the fact that X player got suspended, and y player didnt, even though the plays were similar.
When one hit gets 25 games, and another similar hit doesn't even get looked at.
That's why people are screaming.

I don't feel like they were similar hits though, so I guess it's a non issue in my mind.
i agree torres hit on hossa was worse than neils, but if you watch the suspension videos, a couple of the hits that torres was suspended for previously, which ultimately led to the 25 game suspension, were similar
I am all for tough hockey like the Flyers were doing in those 2 first games. Hard hitting, a bit of bitching, but never crossing the line.
The NHL should suspend, regardless of the player or intend, automatically for 10 games without paycheck for hits to the head. Add 20 games without paycheck for a second offense (which make it 30 games) and so on. After a year or two, you won't see any hit like this anymore.

I had the benefit of being able to rewind the game and watch it in slow motion.
Although, as soon as I saw the hit I said it was a brutal headshot, the rewinding was to show the other guy I was with.
It is definitely a suspendable offence. It was a blindside headshot.
