Could someone explain the most preferred ratio method, I'm guessing the two most popular methods will be the 2:1:1 and the 4:3:2.
But I want to know how to calculate the real values of a players primary, secondary, and tertiary stats.

4:3:2 and 2:1:1 are the two most common. I personally use 4:3:2 but I think more managers use 2:1:1.
Can you perhaps explain what you mean by "calculate the real values of a players primary, secondary, and tertiary stats"?

well they explain in the guide how a player who is 100 25 25 wont be as good as a player who is 80 40 40. Which means that the secondary and tertiary values will decrease the value of the primary if it's not a proper ratio.
Man i'm even confusing myself right now. Sorry I've been writing a paper all day about how Canada needs to make a valiant effort to seize the resources under the north ice caps by proving that they are part of our continental shelf.

No worries. Basically look at it this way. If the 2nd and 3rd attys are too low, compare to 2:1:1. If they are too high, compare to 4:3:2. Anything in between is generally alright. In the case of 100/25/25 this would be the same as a 50/25/25 which is clearly not as strong of 2:1:1 ratio as 80/40/40.
Make le sense?

yeah I think I'm getting it lol. For the last couple of weeks I've just been playing without really thinking about ratios and everything else, but lately I've been losing to teams that I'm better then when comparing the goalie, offense, defense, ect. I'll win more faceoffs, get more shots, less penalties, but some how I seem to keep losing lol.
Try to think of things in real-life context too. A winger may not need pass as per one of the three attributes, be he still needs to be able to pass. When it comes down to it, just try and make as balanced of players as possible. Ratios are just something to aim for. Make some power forwards (high agr and shot) and some playmakers (high pass and tech) and some snipers (high shot and tech). I'm starting to experiment with that, see how setting a playmaker between a powerforward and sniper plays out. But so long as you aren't loading up one atty you'll be golden.
The big thing that I've noticed is getting your defensemen's tec up. They take WAAAAAAAAAAAY less penalties when you do that and create more turnovers.
I was wondering, I have two goalies that have radically different stats.
The first is 79 - 12 - 21 and the second is 51 - 27 - 27
I was using the first for a while but it seemed like he couldnt stop anything. Which goalie is better with those values?

Definitely number 2. The first guy is in some serious need of passing and tech.
I would play whichever could train to 80-40-40 first based on Quality levels if C/L levels are similar. That way they will have EXP to go with the stats.
Whether or not we agree on the ratio..
Almost all who have picked one will not consider that first goalie to be any better than 24 - 12 -21
That is likely what he is playing as.
the 55 other primary points are shaved off (truncated) because they are more than twice the secondary as Nytemare originally pointed out.

I think we can all agree from watching the stars/pucks that 2:1:1 is bare MINIMUM. We can definitely debate the optimal ratio, but the minimum should be 2:1:1. No question there.
