Who is Harri Hollmen?

Who is Harri Hollmen?

Hey eveyrone,
I've opened up some editor positions to members of the community and I'm pleased to announce Dino Barnabé will be publishing articles in French and English for our enjoyment for the forseeable future. His first article is below, enjoy!

*****

Seriously, if you are a devoted PPM manager and don't know who this guy is, you're missing something. He's the dream alive, the player we all want in our team, the Finnish Sidney Crosby! Well, kind of. But that's not my point. I'm writing about Harri because, this only and single player, has been sold on the market for 1,276,281,563$ a couple of weeks ago.

It is 1.2 BILLION dollars!

Look at Harri Hollmen.

OK, he's 23 years old and has a career longevity (CL) of 4/6. His Overall Rating (OR) is 2168. Not too shabby, we all agree on this. This guy is simply pure gold. We all want someone like that playing on our first line. We also all dream to sell a player for a substantial amount of money. The young 15yo prospect freshly out of our Sports academy, the star we've trained for 10 seasons, the old veteran with a high OR... but many of us are not even close.

If you compare with some of the best teams in Canada and USA, the price paid for Harri Hollman in unmatched. Let's take the top four teams in each country as a starting point:

Montreal Strippers - Canada

They sold many players, but they spent an astronomical 886M$ on French player Jack Romero (23yo, 4/6, 1878OR), their only buy of the season.

Montreal Sasquatch - Canada

Also many sales, but three big investments to notice, ranging from 124M$ to 379M$. They are all players between 21 and 23yo with an OR above 1500.

Les Sanguinaires - Canada

They spent 222M$ on a young Hungarian prospect named Rajmund Kaposi (18yo, 6/6, 1122 OR).

Vancouver Racoons - Canada

Many new players in Vancouver, but nothing above 33M$.

Irresistible Force - USA

Well, they bought three players this season for a mere 50,000$. But last season was different: four new players paid between 408M$ and 570M$. They are all now in the low twenties, with good CL and high OR.

High Hitterz - USA

A couple of sales and that's all.

Razorback Thugs - USA

Three new players, but only in the 60M$ to 80M$ range.

Psychos - USA

Two new players there: 200M$ on Yan Glazunov (23yo, 4/6, 1761 OR) and 230M$ on Leon Coleman (23yo, 4/6, 1711 OR).

As you can see, Romero is the only one who comes close to Hollman. More than 300M$ below, but closer than anyone else! Romero is exactly the same type of player as Hollman, but with a lower OR.

So, what's the point about Harri? Is he that good? Well, I think he is. There is a strong movement on young players, well developed and with a good career longevity. Some of the best sums paid on the market are exactly for this type of players. Of course, many managers are ready to pay big bucks on a 16 or 17yo prospects, with all the risks that comes with prospects dropping fast in CL. But it appears, with my small sample at the least, that the real money comes from a fully developed 23 or 24yo player with upside. And Harri is the best example of that. At an overall rating of 2168, he was probably the best you could find this season.

Good luck finding the next one. And start saving money now!
