Is there a way to edit my 1st post. I copied it from my site and forgot to take off the
and
Yup Etem was a steal at 30th. As was Pitlick at 31st by the Oilers. McIlrath going 10th what was Sather thinking lmao
Etem is a dubious pick. Yes he had a good season, but besides that season, there is nothing much to base is career on. Steal? Pretty quick to say.
THe Canadiens drafted the #1 sleeper pick of the whole draft in Brendan Gallagher. THe guy got drafted in 4th round with 80 points in the season along with 21 points in 16 ames during the playoffs.

Etem was the fastest player in the draft, and was ranked in the Top 20 (I think) so yeah thats a steal. Pitlick (18th) was a steal for the Oil, drafting him 31st. We also got a promising young Latvian who is only 16 (or 17). Stats arent the only reason why players get drafted where they do. GMs and scouts look at more than just stats, so mabye thats why he was drafted in the 4th.
I don't think you can call anyone a steal until 5 years down the road.
Take Colorado for example. Everyone thinks that Hishon was picked to early, and everything. Well apparently teams around Colorado also had the intention of picking him if he fell. Just because Central Scouting says one thing, NHL team scouts have different opinions.
Despite Colorado having only 2 picks in first 2 rounds. Their head scout said they felt that they were able to get 5 players that they felt were top 50 players in the draft (I think it was 5, might have been more or less).
I'd say you probably have to wait a bit to call anyone a steal just yet. NHL teams have different opinions of players, and if they felt that they were sure fire picks that were going to be great. These players wouldn't have dropped. People need to remember that the players drop in the draft for a reason. A few years down the road people may be thinking that Colorado took Pickard to soon, or maybe Etem was taken to soon.
People are making assumptions, and a lot of people don't like the Hishon pick for Colorado (the injuries worry me a little bit) but just because Central Scouting had him so low. everyone bashes the pick. People seem to forget the year he had before his draft year when he was healthy. When he was going to be a high pick in the draft guaranteed. He got hurt dropped in Central Scoutings rankings, and now it is apparently a horrible pick.
Not saying some of these players won't be steals, its just to early to know. They could hit a wall in their development, and this could be as good as their going to be. You never know. Just give them some time before saying who is a steal and who is a bad pick.
/End Rant

I hope he will, but Seguin will have better teammate in Boston... but thern again, I hate Boston so I cheer for Hall.
That can't be it
It was the easiest to make examples with, so I went with it.
If I had actually read/listened to other teams scouts I could have used them as examples. You know that
lol

Oilers now have two excellent building blocks (Hall and Eberle).
As a Leaf fan, I'm jealous. Seguin would have been nice, and without Kessel who knows - maybe Leafs could have hit rock bottom and gotten Hall. Then we could have overpaid for Bobby Ryan this year instead of Kessel last year (Kaberle to replace Niedermayer + 2011 1st round pick?) and had a base of Ryan, Seguin, Phaneuf.
Oh well. I still think the Leafs' core and future outlook is better than the Senators', Flames', or Habs'. Going forward, that puts us in the top 3 in Canada! Go Leafs Go!
