Anyone else think that it's odd to have a U19 team and a U21 team?

I mean the U19 catches players that are 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19. The U21 catches players that are 20 and 21. That's it. Seems kind of like a ridiculous setup if you ask me. I feel like U18 would've probably been more appropriate.

ANNNNYWAYS... I'll be running for the U19 at least. I don't know if tesco is gonna stick with the Senior team or not (he'd expressed interest to me in the past about running one of the youth teams so we'll see).

Please put players in here that you want considered for the squad in here, and I'll scout them. I'm constantly trying to keep my scouting queue full (it's tough), so if there's any players I might've missed, having them pinned in here is much appreciated.

As a general guideline, I'd probably be looking at players that fit into the following categories:

15 year olds. At least 80 AQ and 350 OR
16 year olds. At least 75 AQ and 450 OR
17 year olds. At least 70 AQ and 550 OR
18 year olds. At least 65 AQ and 625 OR
19 year olds. At least 60 AQ and 725 OR

Obviously, these are the BARE MINIMUMS for consideration... but if you've got guys that fit into those categories, I'd like to see them posted here so I can scout them during this season and add them to my database.

I'll also try to update this list at about the halfway point of the season. Because obviously a 350 OR 15 year old now, is a different player than a 350 OR 15 year old 2 months from now.

Can you post how you would like to see players trained?


In particular, I tend to give my players a major specialization and a minor specialization between shooting and blocking. If any of them are particularly interesting, I could adjust the player(s) to a complete specialization (which seems to be common on the national team) if you prefer.

I've neglected the small influence attributes for a while but could fix them by next season if necessary.


Though there are more players to scout for the U19 team, I don't think you'll end up using 15-17 year olds. With the U18 hockey team, I've had exactly one 16 year old in many seasons that was useful to the team as a 16 year old (even he was only useful as an injury substitute and prospect that sat on the bench during exhibitions for the training bonus). I suppose you might have a few more at first since Handball is a somewhat newer sport than hockey was. While it could be adjusted to U17 and U19 (U16 wouldn't work because new 15 year olds appear every week - I don't look for them until after the last sports academy pull of the season unless someone posts one in the prospects thread), after the first few seasons, players don't seem to be worthwhile to the senior team until their mid-20's. I think I like the U21 team instead of an U20 or U19 team (as the intermediate team) since it is slightly more likely that players can be added directly from the U21 team to the senior team in the future.

because players dont have chemistry u better off focus on 19yo and top 18yo. maybe a couple 17yo. dont think 15 and 16 will have any use

Clearly since the teams don't start for another season, you have to add 1 year to all the ages that I'm currently scouting...

That's exactly the reason why it's important to have some players that are currently 15 and 16 scouted for the squad.

What sense does it make to fill the team with only 19 year olds? They will play for a year, gain all the experience and chemistry and then leave. And we'll reset with 0 chemistry the following season...

Anyways... players that are 15 and 16 now will be 16 and 17 when the teams start up. I'd say that's definitely worth scouting.

Obviously the team won't be full of those guys... but you better believe that a guy who's currently 15 year old that's 85+ AQ and 500 OR will be given a spot. Even if he doesn't play for a season or two.

And again... let me emphasize (in case there's ANY confusion), the list I posted is players that I want to know about. It's a bare minimum for scouting.

I can scout about 150 players in a season at this point, so even if a guy might not make the team for another season or two, I at least want them on my radar.

As far as training goes... I'm not gonna bust anyone's balls over it. Training for the youth teams is less of a big deal in my opinion than the senior teams (where players can be on it for a "decade" ). As long as the ratios aren't incredibly out of whack, a good player will get consideration.

For those of you who really want to dedicate your training to my whims I'll be using the following to determine eOR and eQ:

Goalies:
100 GOA / 75 BLK / 50 PAS / 25-30 TEC / 25-30 SPD

Backs:
100 FIP / ** SHO / ** BLK / 75 PAS / 50 TEC / 25-30 SPD / 25-30 AGR

Wings:
100 FIP / ** SHO / ** BLK / 25-30 PAS / 50 TEC / 75 SPD / 25-30 AGR

Pivots:
100 FIP / ** SHO / ** BLK / 25-30 PAS / 50 TEC / 25-30 SPD / 75 AGR


** As far as SHO and BLK for the Backs, Wings, and Pivots goes... I don't imagine that I'll probably have more than one or two "balanced" guys that can "go both ways," (it doesn't tend to be the optimal setup for the national teams). I think training is better spent building up FIP and the major/minor stats, than pumping a whole ton of points into BLK or SHO when the player won't really use it very much.

WITH THAT SAID,
I personally prefer to have guys that aren't COMPLETE specialists. I usually train their primary stat (SHO for offensive players and BLK for defensive players) at the same ratio that I train their primary positional skill (75 PAS for backs, 75 SPD for wings, etc.) I then usually train the "secondary" stat (BLK for offensive players and SHO for defensive players), at the same ratio that I train the minor positional skils (25-30 PAS for wings, 25-30 AGR for backs, etc.)

I do this because I'm not entirely sure how the game accounts for substitutions. So I don't think it hurts for your offensive guys train BLK as much as they train their other "minor" skills, or for your defensive guys to have SOME shooting ability... It's hard to tell how the game accounts for how/when players get "stuck" on the court.

Again though... that's all just my personal training preferences. I'm not gonna be some sort of fascist when it comes to picking players, but if it comes down to the last open spot, and there's a few guys to choose between, the above will definitely factor into the decision process..

So far I've added only 2 players to my scouting queue (and one of them was one of kytihu's 19 year olds lol)... I've already scouted everyone else listed so far lol.
