3d is a gimick that can both work for and against the design. I agree that the recognizeable stands is an issue and also agree they could be made smaller.
Interestingly, the stands do match the rest of the site design, which works very well.

I like the new view, especially considering when you are building up a stadium. Partial 3 tier stands look silly in 3d, but in 2d they look fine.
Are you planning to do an other reorganisation of the league?

we are not going back to the old arena. This one has a lot of upside too:
1. no waiting period for custom ice surface painting
2. cheaper ice surface paintings for the whole length of ice
3. customizable stands
These things were not possible with the old 3D arena.

this "new" arena couldnt be uglier. But you cant do anything against it.
because:
1. It brings more credits (main reason)
2. It doesnt count what some manager are saying and the most thinking about it.
so relax and enjoy the "customizable stands"

why dont you just add old 3d arena without ice surface next to 2d?
should implement the ability to switch between the old and the new arena
It's not as easy as that. That could require a ton of extra coding and work going forward.
Or you can learn to accept that change happens, and embrace it.
