The U18 team played a good world championship series, with 4 wins (2 by shutout), and 2 one goal losses.
We even beat world #1 ranked Czech Republic 7-6 in the preliminary round.
In the round of 16 playoffs, although we outshot them, took fewer penalties, and had tactics in our favour, great goaltending by the Slovenian goalie meant we missed a shot at the medal round losing 3-2 with less than 5 minutes remaining.!
We appear to be in great shape to make a serious run again next season.

L'équipe U18 a joué une bonne série de championnats du monde, avec 4 victoires (dont 2 par blanchissage) et 2 défaites par un but.
Nous avons même battu la République tchèque, classée n°1 mondiale, 7-6 au tour préliminaire.
En huitièmes de finale, même si nous les avons surclassés, avons pris moins de pénalités et avons eu la tactique en notre faveur, l'excellente performance du gardien slovène nous a fait rater une chance de remporter la ronde des médailles en perdant 3-2 à moins de 5 minutes de la fin.!
Nous semblons être en grande forme pour faire une nouvelle fois une belle course la saison prochaine.

Yes, and then they lost to a team we beat 4-2, while resting our top line and top goalie, and running lines in reverse order.!! If justice is to prevail, it appears it may have to wait until next season.!!

Hehe one of my best friends is Slovenian. We would often talk about the great and bloody Slovenia-Canada rivalry. This just adds to the feud!

Season 51:
Once again we have made it to the qualifying round. Tomorrow, Belarus. I figure we need to win two of our three games in this round to move into the final eight.

Well isn't that just our World Cup luck.!!! We have a 1-0 shutout going until 57:11 of the final period, and they score, then add another one with just 13 seconds left for the win.!! We are now officially under pressure.!

Bad luck. Hopefully they get a win against Switzerland!

After our 6-5 win over Switzerland yesterday, anything but a loss in regulation to the Czech Republic today will give us the points we need to advance to the final eight. Fingers crossed for luck.!!

Our 3-2 win over the Czech Republic today puts us against the Russian team in the first round of the playoffs.!! A win, there would give us a shot at a medal.!!! Keep those fingers crossed.!!

A 2-1 win in the shootout over Russia, has put us into the final four.!! 3 of these teams are ranked the top 3 in the U18 world.!! We are ranked #9. 3 of these teams will win a medal.!! What ever happens, it appears we have done better than expected, and should be proud of our accomplishments this season. A win today would be a major accomplishment. We will be "givin' her" until the final buzzer.!! Keep those fingers crossed, even if they are starting to cramp up.!!

At this point, we have only three losses in the tournament, two of them to number one ranked Slovakia, and by a 6 goal difference both times. This leaves us with a final shot at the bronze medal playing against Finland. Past games between Canada and Finland have been close affairs, often decided in overtime or the shootout.

A 3-2 loss to Finland . Unfortunate, but not totally unexpected. Nonetheless, we did overachieve this season, and should move up in the world rankings. Already working on next season's team. Thank you all for your support.!!
