Bartimeus came to me and wanted to know how to get a tournament setup similar to the Memorial Cup. After discussing it we decided to get a feel for how much interest there would be.
What he wants to do is to get X teams from out west (Manitoba west) X teams from Ontario and X teams from Quebec and the maritimes. This will serve as the WHL, OHL and QMJHL playoffs. We would then take the winners from that tournament for a final tournament which would be invitation only.
The details aren't all finalized yet but we'd like to get a sense of who would be interested in taking part in such a tournament. Please feel free to leave comments and suggestions on formatting in this thread.
Thanks.

I be interested especially if there was an age restriction. Say players under 19 with 2 overage players. Maybe you would have to use mostly Canadian players which might eliminate me. Good showcase for young Canadian players.
Never thought of that. That's an interesting idea!
merci

interesting idea, but ask a lot of monitoring. What would we do if someone does not respect the rule for a game?

If you and Canucks are in it I'm out! My scrubs couldn't even wash your players cars let alone be taken seriously in a tourney with them.
It would be up to the opponent I suppose to check the other guy's lineup. If there is something illegal in the form of a lineup... I can talk to the devs about how to enforce it (aka forfeit or fee in the form of credits something like that). However I think most people will enjoy the aspect of a youth tourney. Don't foresee any major issues.
I believe in the system of tournaments there is a possibility to cancel a game.
not believe the contrary, I like the idea is the very foundation of the true memorial cup. And it gives a chance for younger clubs. I have no problem with that, while most managers agree.

Keep in mind that we're talking young players. Most of my squad is now 19 years or older including both goalies. I would be in trouble fielding a young 60 prime goalie for sure or burn my over-age card using Garnett who is 19. You take out my older guys I'm not too strong. I'd have to see how many 19 and unders I have.
Just counted. Given aging a year based on starting next season. It'll be hard for me to field a team with 19 year olds and younger. Do-able, but won't be a strong club that's for sure. 11 of my starters would be ineligible as would a lot of my prospects due to being foreigners.
Thus I think we should allow some non-domestic players but limit it. Major junior has some Europeans but just not a lot. What do you guys think of that?

I say 3 non-domestics per team could be a good limit. My team would be very similar to the one I'm fielding now, just with a younger goalie who will be my starter soon anyways and one line or so taken out... Doubt it would still be competitive though.
I say we discuss it a bit farther and then get it fired up. Seems to be a bunch of interest. I'll post something in my status shortly linking this thread. So what we need to decide is:
# of Teams in each per-tourney
# of Overagers above What Age
# of Foreigners (Can or Can't be Overagers)
Cost for entry
Winnings
Governing invalid lineups
anything else?

Les points que nous devons décider:
-Le nombre d'équipes pour chaque tournoi
-limite d'age ?
-limite joueurs étrangers ?
-cout d'entrée
-repartissions des récompenses
-procédure pour les line-up invalide
-autres points ?
