Here's how it works:
Every time you play VL/L against a team like your own (no penalty/less penalty against teams that are much stronger than yours) a position in a queue is flagged. Each home game, if there is any left in the queue, you will be penalized depending on the amount of L/VL you played.
The key thing to note here is, there is a cap on the size of the queue (you can only be penalized so many times in a season).

I think wasting energy early in the season for any team will be costly. It will eventually come back to haunt you in winnable games later in the season. It could hurt you in the standings, the playoffs, in the NC, and against beatable teams late in the schedule. All of these will affect your finances negatively in some form.
Agreed, its a bit of a lose-lose. I'm going to just keep playing as usual and hope that the changes in attendance are minimal.
That's my thought exactly. Continue with the SOP and in the event you lose on L/VL see how much the penalty is. I would suspect for many it may not be enough to drop below 20,000.
Pretty happy with my 2-0 start. Would have been nice to win by larger margins given the shot difference but I will take it. Streak ends Friday. Was fun while it lasted

TMO kicks off Champions League play with a dramatic win. Six score-or-go-home goals in an epic 16 round shootout against the world's #7 team.
Score-or-go-home? It is single elimination?
No, 'score or game over' is more to the point.
Ah gotcha. Reward your players with a night off tomorrow!
I already decided to. Heck, look at RD4 I played today
He's ready for some I.1 action!!!

The impact on attendance is unbelievable. Check out the difference between games 1 and 3 for my Raging Pigs, the Strippers, and the Sasquatch (particularly the latter two).
I was mostly concerned for player experience, but this is just... wow.
