If there was to be a min of Canadian players on a team, I think it should only be placed on higher division teams. I just started this season, and the CDN players I got were mostly garbage. I got one player with 90's in his main attributes, but he is 19 and at 5/6 already.
As of now, my team is entirely composed of foreign players I purchased. If I hadn't done that I'd be in the bottom 4 teams of my division. I needed a bunch of foreign players to stay competitive.
I'll try and train up some CDN players and gradually switch to a CDN roster, but it'll take a while as I'm not getting much from my SA.

This seems to be a popular way of doing things. I also bought several off the market, but now that my SA and TF are getting better I am going to start focusing on my homegrown players. Will still probably take me a couple seasons before any of my own get steady icetime though.
well, When I think of trades in Hockey games I think of EA sports in the fact that you could trade with the computer based on overall ratings. I am not 100% sure how it worked but I know they gave value to a player in the 90's an A rating so two B rated players where needed to complete the trade. They also rated draft picks starting with a first round pick at a B rating thus an A rated Player could be traded for a B rated player and a first round pick.
This system would need to be implemented for Canada and USA to follow North American hockey systems.
Taking it further looking to add a draft would be interesting as well with Division 1 teams selecting first in reverse order, then 2, 3 & 4, but that might be to much to ask since it a huge modification to the game.

Trades won't ever happen. Stupid people would get accused of cheating, and cheaters could play stupid.
howabout if a foreign player stays with a team for more than 400 days he becomes a citizen of that country!
I've recommended something like that a few months ago. I think it got a "good idea, we'll see."
Yea. The best way really is to implement like dual citizenship. If he stays with your team for like 5 seasons, then he can also become a Canadian. I don't know how that will work here but I know it works in another game I play.
Anyways, it's hard to build a team from just Canadian talent unless you've been playing for a while and pull your own talented youth and train them up. I've had to buy my Canadian talent from top teams and slowly phase out my foreigners. Admittedly, I should have developed my facilities first but who has the patience? =P So I'm slowly building them up now in the hope that I'll undergo a rebuild in the future and build my team from scratch.

Sorry. I'm struggling with the motivation for this. Why do we want to force teams to have home grown talent?
From an NT perspective, I would simply assume that having as many strong teams as possible would improve our chances of generating better players.
From a for fun perspective, I'm not sure that I see the point of limiting where people get their talent from.

Yeah I would have a terrible team if there were rules like this... would make it very hard to get a start in a smaller country.
Personally I dont think this matter too much until you get very high facilities. The kind where you pull 500 OV from the SA and are able to train up to 900+ . Only then should you focus on Canadian players because those are the only ones who have a chance at the NT. Anyone with lower shouldnt have to worry about it because they have no chance of players making the NT anyway.
